Double Meanings
Project Objective:
“The “Switch We often interact with things based on how we feel about them. Understanding relationships requires obligation. We are obligated to comprehending movies, our favorite music, and books. We are obligated to our professions and practices. The nature and extent of relationships can be looked at in terms of desire, impulse, need and obligation.
Contemplate your relationships with various people, places and things in your life and write about them in terms of similarity to other disconnected things. Note that obligation and impulse are not necessarily a negative concepts. And, admitting that you are “connected”, does not mean that the other object or situation is better. (“the grass is always greener concept”) Continue the exercise by designing or drawing your typographic response. A simple example: “Life is like a box of chocolates.” We assume that we see the metaphoric switch but is it understood?”
Project CONCEPT:
Movies have a great way of translating messages. during this project I had a hard time gathering inspiration. While watching Juno, I payed close attention to the storyline. I was able to find the what tied the story together. Chairs. From beginning to end. I first started with analyzing the different chairs throughout the movie, the chairs were very dated and vintage. So my first thought was to modernize the chairs by adding significant quotes from the movies. Although the idea was very strong, the chairs did not match the quotes. So I did a bit more research with the chairs. I tried to keep the quotes in mind while doing this. What I found was that the chairs I choose all had a similar characteristic, curves. the first chair is what I called the “sexy” chair to represent the story of the first sexual interaction between Juno and Paulie; the second was the “furniture” chair was Mark shocked Juno with disappointing news about divorce ; the third was the “retirement” chair represented when Jennifer became a mother. This project was a bit challenging when it came inspiration, but once I got that inspiration I was able to come up with something witty just like Juno.
